The bridge is part of the ongoing AED 5.035 billion Shindagha Corridor Project, which will eventually extend 13 kilometres along Sheikh Rashid Street, Al Mina, Al Khaleej and Cairo Streets. The 295-metre bridge will rise 15.5 m above the Dubai Creek, which allows the passage of various types of boats, and consists of six lanes in each direction in addition to a pedestrian crossing. The bridge’s iconic design features an architectural arch shaped in the form of the mathematical symbol for infinity. The top of the infinity arch rises 42m, and approximately 2,400 tonnes of steel will be used in the construction of the bridge.
“It is truly an honour for us to be a part of the Shindagha Corridor Project, as Shindagha is one of the oldest areas of Dubai and was home to Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai from 1912-1958,” commented Pierre Sironval, Managing Director of Six Construct.
“The Shindagha Bridge will be the third major bridge crossing over the creek that we have successfully built in the UAE, and we are very proud as a company to be a part of shaping the history of Dubai and the UAE,” added Sironval.
The Shindagha Bridge project is being developed under the third phase of the Shindagha Corridor Project, following the completion of the first two phases.
Works in Phase III include the construction of the Corniche Street on Al Khaleej Street, improvements of the Falcon Junction and entry/exit points for Rashid Port. The total length of the bridge is 8.5 km. The tunnels span 535m while surface roads extend 8 km. The project, which involves the construction of 10 surface junctions, will be completed in 2022.
