Moalajah received ISO 55001 Certification in recognition of effective asset management

Moalajah, a subsidiary of BESIX, has become the first sewerage system operator in the Middle East to obtain an internationally recognised certification for effective asset management.

The company operates and maintains the Ajman sewerage system – a complex infrastructure project that was developed under a public-private partnership between the Government of Ajman, BESIX and Veolia. Currently, the assets managed by Moalajah include 400 km of sewers, 22 pumping stations and 2 wastewater plants with a combined capacity of 120.000 m3/day. The operator also manages a significant number of sewerage assets in both Ras Al Kaimah and Dubai.

Moalajah’s approach to asset management was carefully scrutinised by AFNOR, one of the world’s largest accredited third-party certification bodies, and the audit concluded that Moalajah’s management of sewerage assets fully meets the requirements of the standard ISO 55001.

This certification is important for several reasons:

• They provide an essential public service that helps ensure public health and safety whilst preserving the environment;
• A well-run infrastructure supports the economic development of Ajman.
