BESIX Solution
This ambitious ‘Waste to Energy’ project is a major step in BESIX Group’s diversification strategy, positioning it as a partner of choice in achieving the United Arab Emirate’s environmental protection and sustainable development goals. BESIX is involved in the project in three ways: the investment, construction and operations of the plant for 35 years. It confirms the position of the Group as a leading player in the implementation of large and ambitious public-private partnerships, offering governments a first choice solution for the efficient and rapid implementation of their national strategies. To do so BESIX is relying on in-house design office for design, contracting capabilities for construction, a broad range of financing solutions, and finally, expertise in asset management and infrastructure operations and maintenance.
Results & Achievements
The project is co-created with Hitachi Zosen Inova, one of the world leaders in thermal waste recovery with over 80 years of experience in the sector. Construction-wise, BESIX will be responsible for the design and for the execution of the infrastructure works, civil engineering and construction, as well as for the water treatment. Site works started in 2020 and the facility will be fully operational in 2024, at which time BESIX and Hitachi Zosen Inova will also be in charge of the operations and maintenance of the facility for 35 years. Investment-wise, BESIX joined forces with international and local developers: Itochu, Dubai Holding, DUBAL, HZI and Tech Group. Long-term financing in excess of 900m USD for a period of 25 years was secured with a combination of Japanese Export Agencies and strong commercial lenders pool.
